PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WEBSITE IS A BOOKING/ENQUIRY/CONTACT SERVICE OPERATED BY PRACTICAL CAR & VAN RENTAL LTD ON BEHALF OF OUR FRANCHISEES. ANY BOOKING/ENQUIRY/CONTACT IS MADE WITH THE FRANCHISEE AND ANY LEGAL CONTRACT IS ENTERED INTO BETWEEN THE RENTER AND THE FRANCHISEE DIRECTLY, NOT PRACTICAL CAR & VAN RENTAL LTD. • All drivers and/or payees must show valid original driving licences plus 2 forms of ID, copies are not accepted. ID's must be no less than 3 months or 12 weeks old. See below for the GB licence check procedure.
• All pricing is per day and subject to availability.
• Minimum rental period is 24 hours (unless stated otherwise).
• All rentals include insurance (subject to excess, breakdown cover, mileage (subject to local limits) and VAT).
• All rentals are subject to the insurance qualification of all driver's full details can be found:- Terrms & Conditions PDF.
• Collision Damage Waiver may be available – please ask for details.
• The Damage and Theft excess may vary by location – please ask for details.
• Van Rentals are subject to an overhead roof damage excess.
• Additional Drivers are acceptable at an additional cost.
• Drivers must have held their licence for a minimum of 12 months (or 2 years if the driver is under 25 or a non UK licence holder and local restrictions may apply too).
• Deposits by credit or debit card are required on all rentals. Payment is generally taken when you collect the vehicle, however this policy varies, please check with your renting location as some sites require a booking deposit.
• When you reserve a vehicle with us we will assume your drop off time is the same as your pick up time UNLESS YOU MAKE IT CLEAR OTHERWISE.

Car Hire Age Range: 23-75 (this may vary on some makes and models)
MPV Hire Age Range: 25-75 (this may vary on some makes and models)
Van Hire Age Range: 23-72 (this may vary on some makes and models)
Minibus Hire Age Range: 25-70 (this may vary on some makes and models)
Drivers outside these ranges may be accepted subject to insurance clearance (surcharges may apply)

• Foreign Licence Rules - We must be able to read and understand the licence presented and establish it is valid. We cannot accept an International Drivers Permit on its own without the original under any circumstances. European Licences with the EU symbol are acceptable without an International licence. IDP's are intended for the purpose of translation and validity of the original. The onus is on the Renter to provide a translation to confirm all our Insurance Risk questions.
• Sat Nav units may be available - please ask for details.

Each of our franchisees is a separate legal entity and as such Practical Car & Van Rental Ltd can not and will not be held responsible for any financial recompense or legal liability deemed appropriate by any third party.

Cancellation and No Show Policy

If your travel plans change, you may normally cancel your booking free of charge anytime up until 24 hours before your rental is due to start except rentals commencing on a Monday which require 48 hours notice of cancellation. Please check with your renting site if the local terms are different.

If you fail to pick up your car or van on the day your rental is due to start, or do not cancel with more than 24 hours notice prior to the time it is due to start, you will be required to pay at least £50 or the locations own designated fee.

Vehicles are subject to availability. If not available a free upgrade to the next vehicle group will be offered. The location you want to book with will give you a minimum 48 hours notice in the event that they have to cancel your booking in extreme unforeseen circumstances, Cancellation would only occur after every effort has been made to source an alternative vehicle/transport and where a free upgrade would not be appropriate.

GB Driving Licence Checking procedure.

You may check your licence yourself online no more than 72 hours in advance OR check at the rental office when you collect your vehicle.

This will add a few minutes to the normal procedure so please allow time for this to be done.

This is essential for Rental Companies to do in order to comply with the Insurance Companies Rules.

To check you will need your Driving Licence, National Insurance Number and Post Code.

First go to this web site address:- https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

Log in with the full 16 digit driver number, National Insurance Number and Postcode.

Then choose to SHARE the driving licence information, this page can be printed as well. If you cannot print - no problem - BUT make sure you bring the SHARE code to the rental office along with the licence and your ID. NB note the share code is case sensitive​.

All GB Drivers Must Do This

On arrival at site the renting location will enter the SHARE code that you the driver(s) have been given. This will be printed and retained (on ONE page) all of the drivers information. The rental company has to have this information for their Insurance Company.

There is also another option for GB customers who have trouble on the web checking their own licence or who don't know their National Insurance number. If GB licence holders cannot generate a code online then you can call 0300 083 0013 (national rate from a land line) and DVLA will provide you with a SHARE code. Monday to Friday 8.00am to 7pm, Saturday 8.00am to 2pm. National Insurance number NOT needed.

Alternatively you can call DVLA on 0300 790 6801 (national rate from a land line) and leave permission for your driving record to be checked verbally by a nominated person or organisation. You have to go through 3 levels of options which are 1 - 4 - 2. This permission is valid for 7 days. Monday to Friday 8.00am to 7pm, Saturday 8.00am to 2pm. National Insurance number NOT needed. The nominated site who needs the information then calls DVLA, states who they are and that there is a verbal message allowing them the information. DVLA will then give the details the site needs (entitlements and endorsements).​

Cancellation Terms

Our Cancellation terms are that if a reservation is cancelled within 48 hours of the rental start date and time, we will make a charge of 100% of the rental amount or deposit held in advance. If we are given more than 48 hours up to 72 hours, we will refund 50% of the advance deposit held. More notice than 72 hours will be given a full refund.

If Hirer does Not appear for Reservation, Full Rental Rate will be charged.

The Onus is on the Hirer to Contact the Depot if any changes are required for Reservations

Penalty Charge Notices

If we receive any penalty charges for your rental, We will charge you £50 for administration,This will be charged to your nominated credit/debit card, we will always inform the relevant authorities or Police or companies and pass any information to them to pursue the relevant charges with the renter. If we are unable to transfer the liability to the renter, we will process all charges on the nominated credit/debit card along with a £50 admin fee for each offence. All receipts will be sent to the renter immediately.

A Lien will be introduced if any monies are outstanding for any Rentals, Damages, Fuel or any other costs caused by the customer for oustanding debts to the company.

Vehicles out of Hire (Vehicles Not Paid for) Will be reposessed without further Notice and all charges Including Daily Rates, Fuel & Damages will be invoiced accordingly.

Call out charge or recovery of vehicles thruogh no fault of ours or the vehicles. From £150.00.

 

Vehicle Types

We Can Not Always Guarantee That The Vehicle You Have Reserved Will Be Available, We Will Always Reserve The Right To Upgrade Your Vehicle If Yours Becomes Unavailable At No Extra cost to You. 

Customers using own insurance should contact us in advance,for prices, we will require sight of insurance certificate or cover note and contact details for insurance company or broker..

Any hirer with major convictions on license should contact our depot prior to booking a vehicle as our insurers may have restrictions on certain convictions..                                                                                                                                                                 

Vehicle Return Check In

It May not Always Be Practical To Check Vehicles Properly When Vehicles Are Returned At End Of Hire, In These Cases Customers Will Be Notified Of Any Damage Or Extra Charges As Soon As Possible After Vehicle Has Been Checked.

All vehicles should be returned to Depot in a reasonable state for the next renter.

All Vehicles are checked that they are full after every hire. Any short fuel will be charged to the renter. We work on a Full to Full Policy and vehicles are Necked before Hired. Every Vehicle is checked before a vehicle is checked into the depot for fuel at the Shell Garage on Bearsden Road. The teller takes Registration of vehicle and any shortfall is charged + 20% if under £5.00. If more than £5.00 short there is a surchage of £20.00 added to fuel shortage.

• Luton T/L     = Peugeot Boxer, Maxis deliver 9.
• Luton Low Loader   =Peugeot Boxer
• Tippers        = Peugeot Boxer, Ford Transit, Maxis Deliver 9.
• 12/15 Seater Mini Bus= Min 5yrs driving exp. 25- 69 yrs only.  Non-commercial use, D1 required on license, 
• No 1 way rentals

Mileage rates & Insurance and Tow Bars

200 miles Free per day on all vehicles thereafter charged at  £0.15pence per mile.

Example: 3 day hire would be 600 free miles thereafter £0.15p per mile.

When renting Vans with Tow Bars / Trailers, the renter would have to insure for goods in transit if they need insurance for their cargo and Trailer,

While we rent Vehicles with Tow Bars, they are only insured to tow. Any Finacial Loss for trailers being towed is not covered, it is the hirers responsability to arrange goods in transit insurance if required prior to collecting the vehicle,

Our Tow bars are fitted to our vehicles by the Manufacturer, Dealer or there suppliers prior to delivery to us, and are assumed to be standered heights for tow bars, All are fitted with 50mm ball and 7 pin connectors, it is the responsability of the hirer to add any adapters or adjusters at there expense and liability, 1St Vehicle hire will not accept any liability for any incorrectly fitted adapters or for any adjustments made to our tow bar Equipment once the vehicle leaves our premisis, nor will it accept any liability for any misuse, ignorence or negligance by the hirer. IT IS THE HIRERS RESPONSABILITY TO MAKE SURE THERE TRAILER CAN CONNECT TO OUR VEHICLES PRIOR TO LEAVING OUR DEPOT. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR VEHICLES THAT CANNOT BE CONNECTED PROPERLY AND LEGALLY..

 

Deposits

All Vans Carry A Deposit from £150.00 Which is returned to the original payment card used for the hire, minus any extra charges that may apply. When booking on website the deposit of £50.00 may be taken to secure the vehicle.

All accident or Damage Claims will carry a Admin charge of £150.00

When a Vehicle has been returned by renter a Deposit will be refunded. This will normally be refunded after vehicle has been checked in.

Please allow 3 - 5 working days for refund to show in your account. This is normally due to renter bank delays as normally leaves our account within 24 hours.

Car hirers will require a Credit card for payment and a Preauthorisation of the insurance excess chosen

If Non UK Licence a Valid Passport and  if license not in English An International Driving license must be produced for all Rentals.as well as a credit card for payment and a Preauthorisation of insurance excess chosen.

 Mini Bus Rentals   Uk licence holders only, Require a Credit Card in the name of the hirer, Cost of hire will be taken at collection of vehicle and a Preauthorisation equal to the excess  on there insurance will be payable on card,

DURING THE COVID -19 All Hirers should be puntual on picking up vehicles as Staff will ONLY be available at these times. Staff will Only be on Premises for Reservation Times.
